OSHA Susan Harwood Training Grant - ‘Fall Protection & Prevention in Construction'

This course is funded by an OSHA - Susan Harwood Training Grant # SH-000136-SH4. The Florida Safety Council will provide 4.5 hours of fall protection training to employees and workers in the construction industry.

*IMPORTANT ELIGIBILTY REQUIREMENTS: To attend the Free Fall Protection in Construction Course, an employer or employee must be associated with a small construction company or subcontractor, and/or in a position of at-risk, high-hazard/high-fatality. You may also qualify if you are of English language limited, low/non-literate, underserved and/or minority workers.

Training topics include:

Overview of OSHA anti-retaliation provisions, employee rights, employer responsibilities, whistleblower laws, and OSHA’s complaint investigation procedures

  • Roof Safety
  • Ladder Regulations
  • Aerial Lifts, Scaffolds
  • Guardrails
  • Safety Nets
  • Proper Lanyards
  • Connectors and Anchor Points
  • Other construction hazards

Training will be offered in English and Spanish.

4.5 Hour Course (includes ½ hour lunch break)

Students receive a ‘Fall Prevention in Construction Training’ Handbook. Each student will receive an OSHA / Florida Safety Council “Fall Protection & Prevention in Construction” certificate of completion.

Objective: For participants to begin building a lifelong attitude of safety awareness and vigilance among those workers who previously did not understand or acknowledge its importance. To assist participants in better understanding how carelessness or ignorance of fall protection can negatively impact their lives, families and loved ones. To assist them in finding their voices to stand up for their right to a safe workplace.

Upon course completion students will have the ability to define construction terms found in the OSHA Construction Standards, identify fall hazards which occur in the construction industry.

The Florida Safety Council is not an OTI Education Center, but serves as a HOST Training Organization for the Volunteer State Community College OTI Education Center.
