Basic Maintenance of Traffic Course
The Florida Safety Council offers the Basic Flagger Class. This course is required by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for all persons performing the duty of flagging traffic.
The Basic Flagger course will cover a variety of traffic safety topics which will include Part 6 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices section 6e which covers Flagger Control, Fundamental Principles of Traffic Control, Components of a Work Zone, Appropriate Flagging Techniques, Hand Signaling Control, Work Zone safety, and Types of Traffic Control Devices. In order to successfully complete Basic Training, the instructor shall determine that the flagger has demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in flagging operations. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be issued a completion card.

Note: Personnel with this card shall not maintain or set up work zones or traffic control devices (see Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic course).COURSE CONTENT:
- Theory and practice on safe flagging procedures
COURSE LENGTH, MATERIALS AND COST:
- Course length is four hours and may be taught on company site.
- Each participant will receive educational material, a wallet card, and a certificate of completion.

- There is a minimum requirement of 10 participants for on-site training.
